Episode #7: Hedge Funds to Home Inventories with Carol R. Kaufman

Carol started with undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan, focusing on working with emotionally impaired and learning-disabled adolescents. She then pivoted to the hedge fund industry in 1979, learning about financial markets on marketing trips with her spouse. Carol eventually created an investment accounting software firm called Organizer Systems in 1982, which she grew over 20 years, managing accounting for major clients and overcoming the Y2K challenge through a rigorous code remediation process. Following a significant family tragedy in 1994, she became a primary caregiver for their father and later developed a second software product to manage and inventory critical documents, motivated by her experience of managing her father’s estate. This product, initially called Care Binders and later rebranded to CB Data and finally Pinventory, helps users efficiently catalog and manage personal and professional inventories. Despite facing health challenges herself, Carol continues to refine and market the app, leveraging personal experience to highlight its importance in managing household and estate inventories.
